A taste of old Saigon
Our group arrive from different parts of Australia and on different airlines. We had a former soldier (though he was way too young to have served in Vietnam) and his dad, the family of a now departed member of Sandy’s 3 Field Troop, and a keen military historian.
It was a small but select group and we all came together for the first time (above) at the Indochine restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City. This was a taste of old Saigon. Set in the courtyard of an old French villa, complete with vintage Citroen in the driveway, a four piece jazz band playing classic pop songs of the pre-war era even if the early summer evening humidity would have had the French colonials heading for the beaches, this was an elegant introduction to our tour.
NB: Versions of these reports and many of these pictures also appear on the website of Military History Tours who organised this trip for us.
